Arts & Science was founded in 2013 by its creative director, Sonya Park. In the beginning, it started as a small select shop she opened in Daikanyama, Tokyo, and later she started to design the original products.
She was born in Korea, brought up in Hawaii, and migrated to Japan 30 years ago from now. Her rich cultural background allows much freedom in the design of their products. She often gets an inspiration from different traditional costumes, from Japanese kimono to European ancient underwears. In the opinion column of Ginza Magazine, she says, “I do not see the meaning in distinguishing between Western and Eastern fashion. The act of wearing clothes is something that people can simply get excited about.”
Consonant with the brand policy “offering items that people choose to buy,” Arts & Science items are not just easy to be taken in everyday styles but also bring a luxurious experience.
They have physical stores specifically focusing on the concept of genderless and borderless: @SHOP Aoyama in Tokyo and @SHOP Kyoto in Kyoto. It makes you feel special regardless of your identity.
